Behind The Name—For Our 7th Anniversary

As we celebrate seven years of Kinn, I wanted to share the deeper meaning behind the brand name—which reflects both my personal story and a broader vision for timeless luxury. Kinn is deeply personal to me—it’s named after my mother’s maiden name, Kim, honoring my family’s story and the bonds that shape us. We craft timeless 14k solid gold pieces meant to be passed down through generations, keeping not only heirlooms but also the memories they carry alive.

As we celebrate seven years of Kinn, I wanted to share the deeper meaning behind the brand name—which reflects both my personal story and a broader vision for timeless luxury.

From the start, I knew I wanted a brand name that was short and memorable, like some of the most iconic names. Brands like Nike and Kith, with their brevity and punch, have always stuck with me. Fun fact—linguists say that words beginning with plosive sounds like B, D, G, and K are easier to remember.

What makes 'Kinn' truly special is its personal connection. It’s not just a word or a name—it’s my mother’s maiden name, Kim, and I wanted to honor that part of my family’s story. The connected 'n's in our logo are a visual nod to that bond, symbolizing the presence of my family in the brand. After my parents lost their heirlooms in a home robbery, I felt a powerful urge to restore those pieces—especially the ones my mom brought with her when we immigrated to the U.S. from Korea.

In a beautiful twist of fate, 'Kinn' also sounds like 'geum,' the Korean word for gold, which is fitting since we primarily work with 14k solid gold—a material as enduring as the memories it represents.

More than jewelry, Kinn emphasizes connection. The word 'kin' evokes family, and at Kinn, we craft pieces meant to be passed down through generations, preserving not just heirlooms, but the stories that shape our legacies.
