Meet the Artist—Caroline Belhumeur

There’s a quiet kind of confidence in everything Caroline Belhumeur touches. As Chief Creative Officer of Vince, she’s shaped a language of design defined by clean lines, ease, and intention—pieces built to last, made to be lived in, and designed with time in mind.

Before she shaped one of California’s most iconic brands, Caroline’s story began far from the West Coast.

Growing up in the English countryside, her earliest memories are of her mother’s craft—fabric spread across the floor, the rhythm of weaving, the patience of handwork. “She was always making something,” Caroline recalls. “She taught me the basics of craft: how to card yarn, spin, knit, and paint. I think it’s very English to have the love of making things.”

Those early lessons in tactility would become the foundation of her design philosophy—an appreciation for materials, form, and longevity that continues to define her work today. After moving to New York in the ‘80s, Caroline joined Calvin Klein, where she refined her understanding of luxury and simplicity. “That experience taught me how to see. It deepened my respect for the details, the ones that make something feel quietly powerful.”

Now based in Los Angeles, Caroline leads Vince with the same sense of effortlessness that has long defined her aesthetic. “My design approach centers on clean lines and unfussy silhouettes. Pieces built to last with an inherent simplicity. Each one should feel effortless on the body, bringing ease and a sense of confidence that gives the wearer back time—and time, after all, is the ultimate luxury.” We chatted with Caroline to get her perspective on creativity, work, and life in general.

Q: What continues to inspire you—in art, travel, or everyday life—when you’re building collections?

A: Travel always inspires me. I like to be spontaneous and follow my curiosity. When I’m traveling, I’m fully present—I notice all the small, interesting details. Cinema is another constant, whether it’s vintage films from the ’60s or contemporary ones today.

Q: How do you think about the role of timeless staples—whether in clothing or jewelry—in a woman’s life?

A:I love timeless staples. I don’t spend much time shopping, but I always look for the perfect piece—a ring, necklace, boot, or sweater—that feels enduring. Something I’ll keep for years.

Q:Jewelry and clothing share a similar ability to hold memory and meaning. How do you see pieces like ours at Kinn complementing the kinds of wardrobes you design?

A: Jewelry is a way to accent and elevate a wardrobe. I love layering necklaces, whether over a turtleneck or under a shirt. Vince collections are clean and refined, the perfect foundation for layered jewelry that adds a touch of shine and lifts the look.

Q: Looking back on your career, what moments have been the most defining for you as a creative?

A: Growing up in the UK shaped my sense of observation. Nature taught me to appreciate detail. Moving to New York and working with Calvin Klein refined my perspective on design and deepened my understanding of luxury.

A Few of Caroline’s Everyday Rituals

Morning routine: walks in Griffith Park or Pilates at home, then coffee in the garden with her dog and chickens.

On her nightstand: A book, Aesop hand cream, and family photos.

Jewelry she never takes off: her stacked rings and earrings.

Wardrobe essentials: Cashmere sweaters, jeans, leather skirt, pointed-toe pumps.

Little luxuries: time—just to gaze, imagine, and listen to music uninterrupted.

Where she finds joy: horseback riding in Topanga, hiking, and beach walks.

Caroline’s world—like Kinn’s—is one built on the belief that beauty lives in longevity. It’s in the quiet confidence of a well-made piece, the soft structure of cashmere, the glint of a gold ring that’s been worn for years.

Both brands speak to a way of living that values the tactile, the timeless, and the personal. A shared language of craftsmanship and simplicity.
