It actually started with me ghosting him on a dating app—but fate had other plans. One July afternoon in Brooklyn, I stepped off the subway into a torrential downpour. As I walked home under my umbrella, I saw Jeff sprinting through the rain, completely soaked. I swear I had never seen a more beautiful sight. Time slowed for just a moment, and in those five seconds I felt his magnetic, playful energy.
It took me a minute to realize where I knew him from, but once I did, I reached out on Instagram. A few days later, we met for coffee that turned into a three-hour park date. From that moment on, we’ve been in love.
Q: How did the proposal happen?
We had been traveling through Italy and France with Jeff’s family, soaking in the magic of Europe, before ending the trip with a week to ourselves in Nice. On our first morning there, we wandered to a small café for crepes and coffee, sketching in our notebooks and savoring a slow start. Back at our hotel, as I brushed my teeth, Jeff kissed me on the cheek and neck in a way that felt so pure, eternal, and unconditional. It moved me to tears—I couldn’t explain it, but I knew something was shifting.
Moments later, he called me outside to take a photo. I walked down the quiet little street, wondering why this moment of all times. And then, to my complete surprise, Jeff was on one knee. I had never been so shocked in my life. We always knew we would spend forever together, but I had no idea he’d planned this. It was euphoric, surreal, and the truest surprise.
Q: Was there any special meaning behind the way the proposal was planned?
Originally, Jeff had hoped to propose in Italy, where my family is from. But after I got sick, he decided to wait until we reached France—and it turned out to be perfect. In Nice, we finally had the privacy and calm to just be together.
